Cabinets and design
Our expat client based in the new popular area in Amsterdam called “de Houthavens” came to us with a nice and very original design question. In their loft style, new modern house our client wanted to integrate a modern-classic wooden bar furniture in the living room. Next to their custom made kitchen they had a need for an nice beautiful entertainment area with nice wooden, oak and vintage cabinet elements. This whole project was designed as a nice speak easy bar.
Speak easy bar – Amsterdam
The designed speak easy bar is design that together in close cooperation with our client. The first element that everybody agreed on was the nice oak and wooden structure of the bespoke cabinets.
As the fitted cabinets would be right on the visible walls in the living room the furniture design could not be to heavy but had to be subtle integrated piece.
The color chosen was a natural oil in cognac color that was applied to the oak wooden structures. The speak easy bar functions as a nice bar area with the wine fridge integrated in the cabinets. The open areas in the bar are a classic home bar area where the hosts can serve a nice wine or cocktail before a dinner evening with friends.
The functionality of the cabinets is also an element that had to be integrated in the fitted furniture. Therefore the design had to carry a lot of storage space, open bar areas as well as doors and drawers.
Steel doors
In the nice vintage and fitted cabinet we have integrated nice black steel doors and glass. So the cabinet is actually functioning as a nice bar cabinet for the nice looking whiskey and gin bottles. The black steel and glass go very well with the darker and natural oak colors. Also elements like the steel and black bannisters go well with the design.
Vintage oak panel doors
The oak panel doors finished in oil are very popular at the moment and they look nice in kitchen and cabinet projects. The profile of the door is totally on the edge whereas we keep a nice flat panel. In this way the grain of the oak looks very spacious and very natural. This effect is accentuated even more with the matt finish in oil from Monocoat.
Mirrors and copper elements
The vintage speak easy bar is finished off with nice elements like nice oak door handles. Besides we have added a vintage looking copper top and vintage old mirrors to the back of the bars to create a real vintage 20’s bar effect.
The furniture elements were sourced this way that the mirror and copper elements as well as the bar look vintage and original.
Custom made and fitted furniture
Other elements of interest of this bespoke furniture item are the nice fitted wine fridge with the same black steel elements as the steel doors of the bar. The main element and point of interest is of course that the design is completely custom made and fitted. So we have designed around the slanted walls and ceilings. Every element of the cabinet is hand made and custom made and designed.
3D design of the bespoke furniture
The last picture shows the actual 3D design of the project. MyHouse Amsterdam works with nice and very realistic 3D color renderings before we start with any production. In the design process our clients make the right choices as the bespoke furniture comes alive and the project appears in real colors and in the real setting. This helps our clients in making their choices correct and chose beautiful colors and finishing details.
